This Week In BAS
The Community Outreach Committee presents: Freshman Health Awareness - Wednesday, October 28, 2009 Location: WPU 540 ; 8:30 - 10:30 PM
And as always, come to the office and chill with the BAS Dream Team...
"A Coming"
Creeps like a night air
Arrives upon you like a chill
Steals
Away that which keeps your heart’s constant, rhythm.
Change pushes
Unnerves,
Uproots, one out of their current rest-
-unrecognized state of idolatry
and forces one to move.
A coming
Resonates itself in the future
Travels back to the past
Appears in the present
Slapping one with a foreseeing vision
Cultivates,
Revamps,
The drive that stirs one’s being,
Exhales a photosynthetic awakening
And fabricates life into dormancy
A coming
Creeps like a night air
Arrives upon you like a chill
Has been knocking on your back door
While standing at the front
An inconspicuous figment of a later imagination
Consistency kills progress
The repetitive nature wisps up a spell
That obviates,
Casts a dark dense shadow
Warding off new comers
Isolating oneself in a realm
Quarantine
Self constricted
A Coming
Steals
Away the imbalance
That which keeps the heart’s
Constant rhythm
Brings a pungent
Aciculate
incising
Change
That pushes
Unnerves
Uproots one out of their current
Rest
Uplifts them from out of their
Premature coffin
Thrusts forward a clenched hand
Presence that dissipates all-
Dirt, collective residue,
Exposes
The unrecognized state of idolatry
And forces one to
Move.

1. When did you realize that music was your passion?
“I have always liked music. Back in high school, I use to break dance. I was in the school band. I played drums. So I guess you could say ever since high school.
2. If you were stranded on a desert island and were allowed to bring three musical albums, which ones would you bring?
• Bob Marley - Roots and Reggae
• Common Sense- Chocolate For Water
Since I am a DJ I am inspired my other DJs. I respect DJ Jazzy Jeff because he has been around for a minute and he is tight…really tight! DJ Khaled because he was in my shoes at one point in time and, now take a look at where he is at. He use to DJ for a non-profit underground station before he became well known and he linked up with Fat Joe and that was it. I know there are a lot more but those two are the ones that are coming to my head now.
3. Do you have any recent work that the public can listen to? Where can we find it?
Yes, tune into WPTS 92.1 Hip-hop Meltdown on Fridays at 7-9pm. I am also working on the best of Rocky Fontaine CD right now. He is from Philly but right he lives in Atlanta. He is working with the Corner Boys. It should be dropping around thanksgiving. I will probably be also working with B Brixx. He is a local artist here in Pittsburgh.
4. What is your favorite song and why?
“I Know You Got Soul” by Rakim. Every time it comes on, I have to sing it word for word. It just makes you feel!
5. How would you define your musical style?
Very eccentric because when I am actually spinning discs at a party I play ALL musical formats. You that I will give people a party. I hate doing parties where there is just one genre of music.
6. What strategies do you use to market your music?
Street promotion, networking, and talking to people. Basically just getting out there in city.
7. What projects can we expect from you in the future?
Expect to have the Hip Hop Meltdown mixtape series. Also B Brixx and Rocky Fontaine.
8. Is there a Hip Hop/R&B scene in Pittsburgh?
There is but it is not as big as other city.
9. How do you feel about the current state of hip hop?
Right now, I feel that the current state of hip hop is becoming more profound because now everybody is using hip hop. It is in commercials, ads. The music is taking a shift now. We are getting away from all the dancing and catch tunes to people actually putting out good music again.
10. What is your ultimate goal/dream in regards to your music?
To become successful enough to support my family and to be able to provide an outlet for up and coming artist."
"Who Are You"
Who am I…..? Hmmn.
-I… was so cold, because I always wore my heart on my sleeve.
The temperature of my emotions was the lowest degree.
I never knew the truth, so I try so hard to deceive.
It was difficult to conceive, so I just couldn’t believe.
-I… thought any sign of love was for the weak-hearted.
And taking a break was for the dearly departed.
I closed my ears up because I heard too many voices.
Telling me the statistics but not given me any choices.
-But, I always seemed to get back up, like Folgers was in my cup.
Wake up to an icy world, and I guess I was the puck.
Constantly hit back and forth, never stable but never tremble.
I now assemble my life back together, so thankful…
-That I haven’t yet received that dreadful kiss of death.
God made my life right, even though everyone left.
He lifted me up, so I looked down at the sky.
Carried me in his arms, when my spirit was too tired…
-I… was once caged up, but never actually confined.
My internal prison had to open up some time.
Now I pray for people who take pleasure in others pain.
I paint a perfect picture dripping passion on the frame.
-Novocain in my blood, I wasn’t trying feel the pain.
Of the shame that came from growing up out the grain.
I couldn’t really explain, didn’t know who to blame.
But on them crazy nights, I… was awake and sane….
-So please don’t mind me, I am just thinking out loud.
Words screaming off the scroll of my soul, so proud.
With a sound so precise that it surely signals the crowd.
To salute the sacrificed spirits that they have found.
-From the ground to the sky, and everything in between.
I get into the seams of injustice and decree.
That to heal, we must 1st stop the bleeding that’s infected.
We can’t stand strong as a people with a leg that’s prosthetic…
I… Invest my time and trust into the stock of those,
That put everything they have into the life that God has chose.
For them to do and always remember to open your nose.
Never worry about the thorns because you’re trying to smell the rose…….. So Who are you…?
